Longitudinal Waves is a small, easy to use simulation that allows you to investigate longitudinal traveling waves.
Sound waves traveling through the air are good examples of such longitudinal waves. In a longitudinal traveling wave, the particles in the medium oscillate back and forth along the same direction that the wave itself is traveling.
In Longitudinal Waves, the colored balls show the average position of air molecules in the vicinity of each ball.
Longitudinal Waves also shows, for reference, the corresponding transverse traveling wave.
